I was privileged to be part of the writing team for the first Salters A level physics syllabus, so to when asked if I was willing to help out with the update I jumped at the chance.

The Salters approach to science is to motivate the physics (or chemistry or biology) by means of a practical application. For example, the traditional A level topics of EMF and internal resistance, as applied to a power supply, are developed in the context of satellite design and solar panels. Having taught the Salters physics course for a few years it really does work to engage a wider range of pupils than the traditional syllabuses. I think that these books would also provide an interesting perspective for teachers and students in other syllabuses as well.
