I really enjoy Stephen King’s collections of short stories. For me, the author’s wry comments on a story are some of the most enjoyable parts of the book. As one of Stephen’s ‘constant readers’ I always look forward to another volume. I bought this one a little while ago and have worked my way through other books to get to it. With being busy on various projects at the moment, having a collection of short stories is an ideal diversion.
To be honest, I bought this after starting to watch the TV series, which I have yet to finish. Its an interesting book, but not one that I could fly through. Some parts seemed to flow very nicely, but other sections I had to fight my way through slightly more. The TV seems to have diverged from the plot of the book in certain aspects, so I will be interested to see how that finishes. I really liked the twist at the end of the book when the origin of the book featured in the story is revealed. I was not sure about the character’s reactions to that revelation however.
This was a TV discovery for me first having enjoyed the SciFi channel series. The book adds in more character perspective and plot aspects that will probably be followed in the second season. It’s great to discover, albeit late on, a science positive sci fi novel series, so I’m looking forward to reading the rest of them over the summer.

I really enjoyed the TV series with Hugh Laurie, so decided to get the book. To be honest, it does not add much to the series, I guess as the script and the novel are by the same person, but its still a good read.

I was lent a copy of October the First is T0o Late by a friend (thanks FJ…) and was not going to finish reading it before I felt that I needed to return the book. Hence I had to go out a buy a copy. As it came bound with the other two, in for a penny as they say…I’m still working my way through this. Fred Hoyle always has interesting ideas, but I think that science fiction has grown up a bit since these pioneering days.

This was on a list of those books everyone should read, so I read it. It inspired me to seek out some other writing by Gay Talese. I think its probably a bit of an exaggeration to say its a must read, but its certainly a good and entertaining read and snapshot of a time.
