Steve and I were approached by Oxford University press to write the physics component of their new suite of A level books. While we are proud of the content, the book’s shining feature is the brilliant design and presentation that the Press put together. This book really scores on the ‘flick test’.

Writing this book was a joy, not only was Steve a great writer to work with, the encouragement we got from the Press to strip things back and write from fundamentals was inspiring. The discipline of writing in two page spreads and having to justify virtually every word given the tightness of the page design was excellent experience.

The modern trend is for books to be written specifically for one syllabus and be the companion to that. This book was deliberately written to cover all syllabuses, giving it a niche but constant market.

The update gave us the opportunity to expand some of the sections and revise material in the light of new syllabuses.
