It was an exciting privilege to be asked to write a volume for The Young Oxford Library of Science. The book itself was quite a challenge, not least for trying to find a ‘voice’ that worked for the rather wide age range that was being aimed at. As always working with the talented people at Oxford University Press was a joy and the design of the book is well up to their normal standards.
